Ministry Apprentice
Do you feel called to PCI ministry, and want to test that call?
Do you want to gain experience in preaching, pastoring and discipleship?
At St Andrew’s, our vision is ‘Making and Growing Disciples of Jesus’. Part of that vision includes training up the next generation of gospel workers, especially those who feel called to ordained ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
St Andrew's is seeking someone to take up the role of Ministry Apprentice over a two year period. Training and study will be tailored based on prior theological study and experience.
Some aspects of ministry you’ll be involved in include:
Studying Reformed theology and applying it to gospel ministry.
Contributing to the weekly meetings with the pastoral care team and staff team.
Reading alongside the staff team a variety of books on ministry, theology and leadership.
Sunday Worship: helping lead worship, deliver children’s addresses, and preaching.
Pastoral Care: visiting members of the congregation with the ministry team and learning how to pastor God’s people well.
More detailed information about what the apprenticeship involves can be found in our brochure.

Applications will be received and considered as and when they are submitted throughout the year.
“My time with St Andrew’s has really helped prepare me to continue serving in ministry. I have developed my ability to present God’s Word to others in a way that is clear and understandable, as well as true and honest. I have honed my people skills in how to provide pastoral care, as well as gained a better insight into what areas of ministry I am gifted at and what areas need further development.“

Ministry Apprentice.
“I applied for the position of Ministry Apprentice when I began to experience God’s call on my life to serve Him as a Minister. After being accepted onto the programme, I began serving at St Andrew’s in order to test that sense of call.
During my time as an apprentice, I took part in many aspects of church life: serving in various ministries, engaging in pastoral care visits, community outreach and evangelism, leading Sunday services, and preaching. I also benefitted greatly from one-to-one sessions with the ministry team, and was able to grow in my understanding of Reformed theology, address any questions I had, and expand my knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
As part of my apprenticeship, I also attended Cornhill, Belfast. There I learned how to read and understand God’s Word, and how to communicate it effectively to others.
My time with St Andrew’s has helped prepare me to serve in ministry. If you are considering ordained ministry, I would encourage want to take some time to test your sense of call and apply for the apprenticeship. Not only will it give you a better idea of how God is calling you to serve Him, but you’ll also really enjoy the process!”
